Where Do Saved Reels Actually Go on Instagram?
You tapped the bookmark and now you're not sure where it went. Saved reels have one specific home on Instagram (two taps away from your profile), but the way saves work makes them easy to lose in ways that have nothing to do with you.
Short answer: Saved reels go to Profile → three-line menu → Saved → All Posts. Instagram stores a bookmark pointing to the original post, not a copy of the video. If the creator later deletes the reel, it vanishes from your Saved tab. There's no way to recover it after that happens.
Where saved reels go: the exact location
Every reel you bookmark lands in the same place: your Saved tab. To get there on mobile:
- Tap your profile photo in the bottom-right corner of the Instagram app.
- Tap the three-line icon in the top-right corner of your profile.
- Tap Saved.
- You'll see All Posts: a grid of every reel and post you've saved, newest at the top.
If you long-pressed the bookmark icon while saving, the reel went into a specific collection (a named folder) rather than All Posts. Collections appear at the top of the Saved screen above the All Posts grid.
On desktop, the path is: click More in the left sidebar → Saved → All Posts.
What Instagram actually stores when you save a reel
This is where a lot of confusion comes from. When you tap the bookmark icon, Instagram doesn't download the video to your account or copy any content. It stores a reference: a link back to the original post.
Think of it like bookmarking a website. If the website goes offline, your bookmark still exists in your browser, but clicking it gives you a 404. Instagram saves work the same way. The bookmark is in your account, but the content it points to might not exist anymore.
This is fundamentally different from saving a reel to your camera roll, which does download the actual video file to your phone. The bookmark icon and the download option do different things.
Can saved reels disappear from Instagram?
Yes, and it happens more often than people expect. Three scenarios cause it:
- The creator deletes the reel. Creators regularly clean up old content, delete posts with low performance, or just change their mind. When they delete a reel, every bookmark for that reel across all users becomes invalid.
- The account is deactivated or banned. If a creator deactivates their account temporarily, all their posts become inaccessible. If the account is banned permanently, everything is gone.
- Instagram removes the post. Content that violates Instagram's policies gets removed, taking all associated saves with it.

Why you can't search saved reels on Instagram
Once a reel lands in your Saved tab, it's essentially stuck in a flat list you can only scroll through. Instagram provides no search, no filter by topic, no sort by date range. The only organizational tool available is collections, which you have to create and file saves into manually at the moment of saving.
